London Heathrow Airport shuts due to ‘significant power outage’ after large fire

A British Airways A380 takes off from London Heathrow Airport.

London’s Heathrow Airport will be closed through Friday because a large fire nearby led to a “significant power outage,” the airport said.

“Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage,” Heathrow Airport said in a statement on X.

“To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March.”

The airport added that passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for more information.

Representatives for the airport could not be immediately reached for comment.
